You won't be able to click the radio until they call down to you and ask you to.  That will only be once you have everything securred, the tank switched and turn on the bilge pumps!

um, how do you get off the ship?

On the right side on the ship facing the front, look for a large rock.  It's more towards the front of the ship than the back!

In chapter 5, your main coal is to get the old generator running!  The crowbar will come later :)
