Stuck in Chapter 10

I just began chapter 10. I've talked to Anne (who said nothing), explored the laboratory which I found nothing in, talked to the boat man who said nothing, talked to Alex who confirmed that the button was his and said nothing, called the Aunt who said nothing and spoke to the bird who says nothing. 

Suggestions on where to go from here? So annoying that I can't do anything or trigger an event in the game. Any help is appreciated!!!

@MarissatheCatLover It seems like you need to trigger something more in the Laboratory.  here is a list of things you need to look at, let me know if you've seen them all.

Panel by door with sneak weight

Filing cabinet with drawer open (Jane makes a comment)

Batteries on top of filing cabinet.

Button next to chalk board.

Photo on desk.

If you've look at all these things something should happen!

In the Rikki Tikki Tavi book there are colored lines under some letters, if you solve what it spells out you have the answer above.

Try putting that into the machine and write down the letters it highlights as you go!
