My Story
I helped a patient with my mom on holidays and I helped sometimes with other
patients with games and some patients started bickering and a patient who
always thought she finished lunch would leave during lunch and we love everyone
there and the hairstylist would be doing their hair and they would be asleep
the entire time during their appointment. They have to close the doors so the
patients don't know someone passed away. I made a lot of friends at this
nursing home and I had difficulty with our patient and the patient loved being
out in the garden. I really liked being with my patient we would go to lunch every
day and I would bring my lunch also and we sat with a few friends and we walked
around the nursing home and we played in the Physical Therapy Room it was
really fun. We also went to the Garden Club where we did flower arrangements
with the gardeners. Once a month there was a birthday celebration for all the
residents who had a birthday for that month they would have cake and punch and
sing Happy Birthday. They had Church service at the nursing home they also
played matching games and they played bingo and they made tie dye shirts for
the residents and they had car races with cars and dice and the winner would
get play money and they had popcorn in the afternoon and they got to pick out a
movie to watch. sometimes people would play basketball and bowling in their
wheelchairs and sometimes guests brought their pets to visit the residents
which was pretty cool and sweet and they had really good music and father and
daughter came in to play the piano during lunch and bands came in to play
during the holidays and they had coffee and hot chocolate for the residents. On
Valentine’s Day there was a queen and king crown on their head and they had
many staff working with patients when I was there and they were helpful and
nice and friendly and we needed help with our patient so we called for help and
they came to help us and we had assistance. I will probably be back at the
nursing home in the summer hopefully I will see my friends again very soon I
was happy to meet all the patients and the staff and the dining room staff were
also very nice and friendly the food the residents has were very good but they
complained about the food and they had to eat it anyways also many of them
couldn't eat anymore which was really sad but it does happen sometimes. Many of
them were in their rooms most of the time and couldn't get up.
