glitch in chapter 8 please help

I have the same issues others have described where Anne doesn't respond by telling me about finding the snake etc. I have done everything but when I tried to go back to view the newspapers again they are no longer in the boat shed. THey are not in the living room where I first found them either. And the extra bishop is next to the chess set where i already commented on the missing king.
I can't advance in the game. please help!

    We checked into your game and you were correct, you needed to look at the papers!

    If you load into the game again you should be at the part with the wooden snake on the end table!
