Chapter 8 Chess Piece Glitch

Help!  I found the chess pieces under the bush and tried to put them on the chess board.  At first it was fine, but then it backed me out of the board and when I went back in the extra piece was there.  I have done everything the other boards say to do to no avail.  Please help!
