Where is the mill?

Message boards hint about a mill, where is it?
Also, I found a note with a torn edge and its "attachment".  I don't remember where I got it, is that the one from the step?  If not, which step has the note?

    To get to the Mill you need to buy Midnight, have you bought midnight, or has she shown up?  Also, The note under the step doesn't show up (it's in the lantern) until after you've been to the mill and gotten a horseshoe and compared it in the two horse prints at Shepwood forest and Hunting Lodge.  Then given the horse shoe to Martha.

    I have the horse and found the loose horseshoe prints.  I've looked at the horse book.  I can't ride Midnight until I learn more about her.  How do I learn more about her?

    In the book it mentions if the horse smells things from it's previous owner then it will have the sensation to go home.  You need to show Midnight a cloth that you find in a tree in Shepwood forest, then after you show her the cloth get on and see where she takes you!
