The Final Game

Lights.
Cameras.
Action.

No, I'm not talking about a movie set. I'm talking about the final football game of the season. The game where scouts are observing, plays are being recorded, and the stadium lights are shining bright. Its The Game.

It's currently half-time and I'm chugging down a bottle of Gatorade. The score is 6-12, with the Hornets in the lead. We can't lose this game, I cant fail my team.

I wipe my mouth with my writs and snap my attention to coach as he calls my name.  "Hayden!" He roared, looking angrier than a grizzly bear out of hibernation. "Yes Coach?" I swallowed. "What's wrong with you? What is that that you're doing out there?" "It's football, Coach," I answered. "It doesn't look like football! It looks like you're a bunch of ballerinas on ice! Step it up!" He snapped. "I'm sorry coach." "Sorry doesn't fix it. If we lose this game, it's over. Your future career depends on this game, and so does your team mate's careers. Now come on, it's time for a pep talk." "Yes Coach," I said softly, feeling as scared as ever.

It was always my job to give the pep talk. But how could I when I wasn't very peppy myself?

"Guys! Listen up!" I shouted, drawing the group into a huddle. "Gavin," I called, "What are we doing tonight?" "Playing football, Captain," he replied quickly. "And what does it look like, Jacob?" "That we're not doing very well," Jacob answered. "Exactly. We need to step it up and start playing football, not whatever it is that you're doing now. This game is too important for us! We can't just lose when we've been undefeated all season. What are you guys doing out there?" I looked around the huddle, as our kicker stepped up. "We're giving up Captain," he said quietly.
I knew that this was true. We were giving up, and we still had half the game left. "We can't be giving up! There should only be two things on our minds at the moment: Playing and Winning. Do you guys not realize how much this game effects the future? It's everything! And for those Juniors, this game is not your last but that doesn't mean you can give up either! You should be fighting just as hard because next year, this might be you. It's everything. Now let's go out there and play some football!" I roared, putting my hand in the center as everyone else.

"One, two, three, Alphas!" We shouted in unison, as the whistle blew.

It's game time.

****I would write the rest of the story but i have no idea how a football game goes. I mean like, the plays, etc. I literally found this laying around in my documents folder and felt that I should post it here. Thanks*

(This video was what inspired the short story a long time ago. :D Last football season. That and my brothers games. Yay football!)
